9 - Living the Law | Exodus

In God's kingdom, you recognize yourself, in Satan's kingdom, you believe you are someone you are not. It is an inner lie, a self-deception, and often people are unaware of it. However, the effects in life can show that they are deceived. In the kingdom of God there is no fear, in error fear is omnipresent. The kingdom of God is about freedom, not control, while in the kingdom of Satan power over others dominates.

In the Sinai narrative, God proclaims the Ten Commandments and gives Moses two stone tablets. The Ten Commandments help us understand how the human heart works: our dependence on God and the limits of our own striving. Outward obedience does not prove our inner state, for it can also come from error.

God's law is meant to reveal our spiritual dependence and show that we cannot fulfill the law on our own. Believers often take outward actions as proof of an inner attitude, but this is a deception. Jesus' Sermon on the Mount reminds us that it is about recognizing our inner state.

When our actions destroy our lives or take away our freedom, we realize that our way of thinking is flawed. The truth sets us free. Illness is nothing more than the consequence of our inability to allow evil. It arises because every human being wants to force good, they resist evil and want to control others. And they cannot do that – it is impossible!

God wants to show us through the law and the reality of life that something is wrong within us, so that we may find it and experience salvation. We cannot force good. Only through recognition and repentance can freedom arise. What this means in detail is discussed in part 9 of the series “Exodus.”
