As a leader, you motivate not through pressure or constant push impulses, but through understanding what really drives people.
Because people are motivated by meaning, not by goals alone. A team that sees meaning behind what it does is strong.
What exactly that meaning is varies from person to person: for some it is growth, for others it is purpose and impact. For others still, it is pride in their own achievements or simply being seen.
As a leader, your job is not to artificially create motivation, but to discover the source that is already there. Leadership therefore begins with listening.
What individual sources of motivation do you recognize in your team – and how do you ensure that you communicate and utilize them? Share an observation from your practice. Let's lead with meaning.
